Decorate with White Holiday Lights for Princess theme parties
Scatter rose pedals for a decorative effect. Silk ones are found at craft stores in the bridal section.
Decorate with tulle found at craft stores. Make a stunning arch-way entrance with crepe ribbon paper or tulle, or plastic table cloths ($1 store) tied with bows
Scatter pink candies or sequins and confetti for table decorating
Use pink flowers in a small vases scattered around the room and the party table
Tie bright fabric or tulle to guests' chairs
Tie pink balloons to each guests' chair ($1store chairs) and allow them to take it home after the party
Have a Princess Pancake Party! Invite the entertainer to come the morning after the Slumber party as a nice take-home memory! What better fun than Tinkerbelle waking you up for pancakes!! If your little one is too young for a slumber party, then have a "pretend slumber party" where guests come wearing their PJ's but go home after dark! pancakes in the afternoon or pizza for breakfast is fun too for a Wacky Party idea!
Use your digital camera/printer to take a photo of each guest and send home in party bag. Individual or group photos of the guests with their birthday friend and princess friend make a nice added touch for thank you notes.
Invite guests in their princess costumes and have a costume contest with dollar store prizes - the pinkest costume, the silliest costume, the fluffiest costume, the most original costume...and so on.
Set up a Cookie-Decorating Station with home-baked Sugar Cookies. Kids can sprinkle, add icing, and decorate as an easy 'starter activity'. Another idea is long pretzels dipped in frosting and sprinkles at the end for a yummy treat.
Using large boxes, or plastic storage containers, or real sand boxes, hide 'jewels' in sand and provide large spoons or sand shovels for kids to ''dig for treasures'. Jewels can be small stones found at craft stores in floral department, or, tiny wrapped candies, or glass marbles! Be sure to create fun signs with your birthday child to post around the yard!
A nice 'starter' activity that's easy and affordable is Bug Art! Find clip art online for lady bugs, dragonflies, lady bugs etc and have kids color, bejewel etc. Parents will help and this is a nice transition activity while guests are still arriving. Pre-party, decorate butterflies with the birthday child, and hang for decorations using fishing line.
Create stations in the backyard with small tables and inexpensive table cloths for nail polish/make-up, cookie decorating, sticker art, pumpkin carving, fairy picture coloring
Another craft idea: beading necklaces. Pre-party take baggies and put beads and pre-cut string in each bag, or have bowls of beads available with pre-cut string, then when each child arrives give them a baggie and his/her parent can help assemble. Cuts down on frustration if they're pre-packaged.
Decorating plain goody bags and photo frames-craft supply stores have many ready made kits of foam-art, or you can make your own with a hot glue gun and popsicle sticks. Dollar store frames are a great find, spray paint them gold and have markers, glue, glitter, jewels, stickers, and stamps available for decorating fun.
Later you can scatter the goody bags (filled while kids are doing another activity) in the backyard, and send them on a hunt to find their prize filled bag
Remember the $1 store for your party prizes!
Fun Party Activities
Gelatin Eating Contest: Make one bowl of Jell-O for each kid (plus have some extra on hand). Line the bowls along the ground. Use butcher paper or plastic tablecloths as a ground covering. Each kid places their hands on the ground beside their bowl and must keep them there throughout the game. When the command is given to start, all the contestants begin eating their Jell-O - hands-free! The first one to clean their bowl completely wins.
Balloon Stompers: For this game, all you'll need are rubber bands and balloons. Blow up many balloons and tie a rubber band to each of them. Put a balloon around each players' ankle by stretching the rubber band over their foot (it would be best over their sock so that it won't hurt). Make sure players wear shoes to protect their feet (if you want you can put a balloon on each ankle). Play some music and have everyone stomp around, trying to step on and pop other players' balloons. Whomever has the last balloon left around their ankle is the winner!
Giggle Box Game: Laughter is contagious. The object of this - one of the funniest kid party games - is to keep a straight face while the other players try to make you laugh. All players form a circle and one player begins by saying, "ha." The next player says, "ha, ha," followed by the next player who says, "ha, ha, ha," and so on around the circle with each player adding another "ha". Each player must pronounce their "ha ha's" as seriously as they can, to avoid laughter as long as possible. Any player who laughs or makes a mistake drops out of the ha-ha circle. However, that player then gets to try and make the remaining players laugh in any way they can (except by touching them or talking). The player who keeps a straight face the longest, wins!
Easy Fun Snack Food:
Individually wrapped cheese sticks
Fruit skewers of Apples, Grapes, Pineapple, Strawberries
Chocolate covered strawberries are excellent at tea parties
Mini-Muffins
Popcorn, Pretzels or Goldfish crackers
Mini-hot Dogs
Bowls of candy, or pastel marshmallows on a skewer stick
Peanut butter jelly sandwiches in fun shapes
Oven baked Tater Tots or fries
Mac and Cheese
Chicken Wings or Chicken Nugget Party Platters
Pre-bake and decorate fun cookies and insert a kabob wooden stick, then wrap with a ribbon and cellophane for a take home treat. Spider shaped cookies, football shaped cookies, butterfly or flower shaped cookie cutters are easily found. You can use the treats as a table decoration sitting inside a nice vase.
